Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@goldcountrycompounding.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Compounding is the art and science of creating personalized medications. Unlike traditional pharmacies that only dispense mass-produced drugs in standard strengths and forms, compounding pharmacies make medications from scratch—customized for each patient.

At Gold Country Compounding, we work with your healthcare provider to create solutions tailored to your specific needs. That might mean:

  • Changing a medication’s strength or dosage
  • Creating a form that’s easier to take, like a cream, liquid, or troche
  • Removing allergens or unwanted ingredients, like dyes, preservatives or corn starch
  • Combining multiple medications into one

Whether you're dealing with hormone imbalances, chronic pain, veterinary needs, or medication sensitivities, compounding offers a more personal approach to care.

Compounded medications are ideal when:

  • A standard drug isn’t available or has been discontinued
  • You need a different strength or dosage
  • You can’t swallow pills and need a liquid, cream, or troche
  • You’re allergic to an ingredient like dye, gluten, or lactose
  • You need a pet-friendly formulation for animals

Yes. Just like any pharmacy, we require a prescription from a licensed provider. We’re happy to work directly with your doctor or veterinarian to get started.

The individual ingredients we use are FDA-approved and sourced from FDA-registered suppliers. However, the final compounded preparation is not FDA-approved because it is made specifically for you and not mass-produced.

We do not bill insurance directly, as most insurance plans do not cover compounded medications and reimbursement can be inconsistent.

If you'd like to try for reimbursement, we recommend contacting your insurance provider—they typically require you to fill out their own claim form. We're happy to provide a detailed receipt and any information needed to help you complete the form.

While insurance coverage is not guaranteed, most HSA and FSA plans do cover compounded prescriptions, making them a great option for many of our patients.

Yes! We offer fast, secure shipping within California so you can receive your medication conveniently at home.

Most prescriptions are ready within 1–2 business days. However, we always call you first when we receive your prescription. Before we begin compounding, we’ll go over the details with you—confirming your medication, answering any questions, and discussing pickup or shipping options.

We sure can! We prepare pet-friendly medications for cats, dogs, horses, and other animals in flavors, forms, and strengths that are easier for them to take.
